All Projects, Urban Resilience
TEMBUSU Asia was appointed to develop the Zero Waste Master Plan for the flagship Sino–Singapore Tianjin Eco-city (SSTEC), one of the 16 cities in China chosen to pilot the Zero Waste programme. Being a collaboration between China and Singapore sets the SSTEC apart from the other cities with this project poised to become a model Zero Waste Eco-city in China. Building on SSTEC’s eco- and smart city status, its master plan will take references from Singapore’s own Zero Waste Master Plan and expand on its pilot Implementation Plan. The master plan will incorporate the understanding of the present Key Performance Indicators, datasets on waste stream mapping and projection, and current waste management practices.
TAC identified 4 key waste streams in SSTEC (namely domestic, food, horticultural, and construction & demolition wastes) and developed a strategic transformation master plan with 3 approaches: circular economy, technology innovations, and stakeholder engagement. Each approach includes strategies and initiatives customised to SSTEC’s local context to address various challenges and limitations unique to each waste stream. The Zero Waste Master Plan will be developed with a roadmap projected over a 15-year timeline and built on quantifiable and achievable targets for the short, medium, and long-term milestone year of 2025, 2030 and 2035, respectively.
