A recent housing development adopted an integrated approach to transform a forest in Northern Singapore into a dynamic living space. Leveraging on ecological and environmental expertise, TEMBUSU Asia Consulting (TAC) was appointed to conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and develop an Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan (EMMP) for the site. 

A core conservation area was identified to be retained due to its rich biodiversity and the presence of a stream flowing through a freshwater swamp. TAC revalidated the existing EIA to minimise negative impacts to the flora and fauna that might be caused by the construction work. A comprehensive EMMP was implemented during both infrastructure and building phases to ensure compliance to mitigation measures. Monthly fauna surveys were also conducted to monitor the changes in biodiversity around the site. To improve the environmental knowledge of key personnel, trainings were held on certain biodiversity topics such as the species found in the project site, the significance of biodiversity protection, and strategies to minimise human-wildlife conflict. 

TAC’s multi-disciplinary services have supported the client in creating a sustainable urban development while fulfilling the SDG goals of sustainable cities and communities and life on land.
