Our natural world provides valuable ecosystem services, including food and fuel provision, climate regulation, air and water purification, nutrient cycling, and recreational services. Many of these ecosystem services are often overlooked, but critical for our continued survival. With booming population growths and increasing resource use in most parts of the world, humans are impacting the natural world at an unprecedented rate, with increased rates of deforestation and pollution shifting the Earth’s natural balance. According to a post-2020 global biodiversity framework by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), indicators show that biodiversity has further declined between 2011 and 2020, despite  increased policies and efforts to support biodiversity. However, there is still hope. Despite estimates based on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species indicating that one million species are currently threatened with extinction, modelling suggests that there is still a possibility in reversing these trends.

At TEMBUSU Asia Consulting, we recognise the important role biodiversity plays in our society, and we aim to guide our clients to incorporate ecological protection in their plans for sustainable development. To assist clients, TEMBUSU Asia provides a wide range of wildlife and ecological services as listed below.

Through our team of in-house and partner specialists, we conduct biodiversity surveys, often as part of larger projects, including Biodiversity Screening Assessments, Biodiversity and Environmental Impact Assessments, and other Biodiversity Baseline Studies. Fauna surveys are conducted to identify and record a range of species from various taxonomic groups. We use a range of different standard methods and technology, including visual transect surveys, camera trapping, bat acoustic surveys, and hand netting and trapping of invertebrates, depending on the needs of the project.

Wildlife Management Plans are devised for upcoming developments to minimise the risk of wildlife mortality and injury, while also reducing the risk of human-wildlife conflict incidents. Through an understanding of a project site’s baseline conditions, and the identification of target species found within and around the site, our team is able to development wildlife management plans. Such plans are often included as part of the client’s Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan, and may include aspects such as plans for directional clearance of trees, pre-felling fauna inspections, and wildlife response and rescue protocols.

Habitat restoration involves rehabilitating or enhancing degraded habitats to increase the biodiversity or ecological function of a site. Our team’s practical experience and ecological knowledge allows us to help our clients devise a habitat restoration strategy, including setting objectives and goals, recommending planting palettes, and devising monitoring parameters for a proposed habitat restoration project.
