Marina Bay Reservoir (Singapore)
The reservoir was formed by building a dam across the mouth of Marina Bay. With the completion of the Marina Barrage in 2008, the reservoir, which contained mainly salt water, became freshwater and started operation in 2010 after a process of natural desalination. The reservoir provides about 10% of Singapore’s water needs. The Environmental Impact Assessment included detailed assessment of water and sediment quality in Marina Bay.
